Two secondary school students are receiving medical care after sustaining serious injuries in a road collision in Cas En Bas on Friday, September 18.
Tatiyanna Innocent and Jeanquan Jn Peirre, both students of Entrepot Secondary School, were among three pedestrians struck during the collision, which occurred at approximately 4:50 p.m., according to police.
Police said four vehicles were involved in the crash, including a white Toyota Hilux and a black Mitsubishi Lancer that were travelling in opposite directions before colliding. Two construction vehicles parked on the side of the road were also impacted.
According to police, the three pedestrians were walking along the road when they were struck during the collision. Innocent and Jn Peirre sustained serious injuries.
The Saint Lucia Fire Service earlier told St Lucia Times that Innocent sustained a possible femur and pelvic fracture, while Jn Peirre sustained “a crushing injury to his left leg and deformity to the other”.
According to a social media post from the Entrepot Secondary School, urgent blood donations are being sought for both students. The school is asking individuals wishing to donate to visit the Blood Bank at Owen King Hospital between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
“When donating, please indicate the name of the student you are donating on behalf of,” read the statement.
Police confirmed that a third individual, an adult male who was driving one of the vehicles involved, also sustained injuries in the collision. The Fire Service said he suffered head trauma but refused transfer to a medical facility.
No additional details have been confirmed at this time.
