The United Workers Party (UWP) has lost one of its greats. Former General Secretary of The Party, Herilton Celestin passed on 7 February 2023.

Mr. Celestin contested the Vieux Fort seat in 1974 on a UWP ticket. He was later elected General Secretary of The Party and served in that capacity for many years.

Mr. Celestin was a man of great stature and elegance. Notwithstanding his achievements, from an early age, in the field of education, and his professional prowess, this intelligent man remained humble and was well respected throughout his life.

He was once recorded saying; “I respected the ordinary man and they in turn respected me.”

He was soft spoken, affable and charming, a gentle giant in his own way. He wore his heart on his sleeve, always willing to assist wherever his efforts were needed. Mr Celestin was known to have made untold sacrifices for the causes in which he believed in order to ensure that community and country were left in a better place than he found them.

His superb contributions to community and country will not be forgotten and his service to Party is permanently etched in the history of the United Workers Party.

The United Workers Party takes this opportunity to extend its deepest sympathy to his wife, Martha Celestin and family.

May He Rest in Perfect Peace.
