Saint Lucia has experienced a spike in respiratory illnesses, prompting the Ministry of Health, Wellness & Elderly Affairs to issue an advisory on reducing their impact on health.

At the same time, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Sharon Belmar-George has disclosed that the Ministry is closely monitoring the emergence of new COVID-19 variants and sub-variants.

“At present, we have sequenced about 12 sub-variants of omicron circulating in country,” Belmar-George disclosed.

She also said over the last 30 days, from January 8 to February 6, Saint Lucia recorded 178 cases of COVID-19 and one COVID-19 death.
