Although there has not been a recorded increase in cases of dengue and chikungunya, Saint Lucia has increased prevention and control measures.
The disclosure came Tuesday from National Epidemiologist Dr. Michelle Francois.
Francois explained in an update that Saint Lucia was monitoring Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) alerts regarding dengue and chikungunya spikes in the Americas region.
The National Epidemiologist noted most of the reported cases were in South America.
But the Aedes aegypti mosquito, responsible for transmitting the diseases, is present in Saint Lucia.
