RSLPF Halts Issuing Passports On Sundays

The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) has stopped issuing passports on Sundays, an initiative it had introduced to address a backlog.

“The Immigration Department of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force would like to inform the public that passports will no longer be issued on Sundays,” a police notice said.

However, the notice disclosed that issuing passports would continue on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The notice provided no other details.

Then Acting Police Commissioner Ronald Phillip introduced issuing passports on Sundays, as the RSLPF acknowledged inconveniences to the public in obtaining the travel documents.

Between July 20 and August 14, 2023, the Immigration Department issued 532 passports as it reported that many people were utilising the service.

At the time, the police noted that usually, during the summer period, more people apply for travel documents.

  1. Awa when will this nightmare end shows the incompetence of this department give them all the resources and still not efficient people have to wait 1 month for passport. This department plagued with so much corruption the minister have no clue what’s going on .

  2. I do not know what has really changed to create such a mess. Can someone tell us ?

A department which has been around for so long and was operating without issues. Well no one knew of issues. Was there any process being followed in the past ? Where is the promised investigation by Virginia ? This is such a mess and no accountability – wow . Is that how we do it in SLU.

Government needs to be more accountable and people need to pay for it. Someone actual had a side business on this issue and Virginia said there is nothing she can do about it. Again someone is accountable for this from the inside – how about doing something about it – Accountability

  3. I’ve never been able to understand why passports are issued by the RSLPF. can’t the government put qualified individuals to work at the passport office. Upgrade your system and services. Police officers should be out on the streets not in a passport office.

  4. Hiring qualified individuals is one way of creating more job opportunities while the police get to do what they were hired for. Sitting at a desk won’t help with crime

  5. SINCE GROWING UP IN LUCIA AS A CHILD POLICE ALWAYS RUN IMMIGRATION, WHEN I JOINED THE FORCE SAME THING POLICE IN IMMIGRATION GIVING OUT PASSPORTS, COUPLE OF WPC’S WERE IN THE OFFICE HQ, THAT WAS IN THE 70’S AND 80’S, I REALLY THOUGHT THAT HAD CHANGED I GUESS NOT. PUT THEM POPO’S ON THE STREET TO FIGHT CRIME AND TRAFFIC DUTY. I AGREE WITH @Abc.
