The United States Coast Guard recently repatriated twenty illegal Caribbean migrants after interdicting an overloaded makeshift vessel.

A Coast Guard release disclosed that the interdiction occurred in Mona Passage waters off Puerto Rico’s western coast.

Coast Guard Cutter Pablo Valent’s crew returned the twenty illegal migrants to San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic.

Seventeen men and three women, all of whom claimed to be Dominican Republic nationals, were in the group.

From October 1 to November 30, 2023, the Coast Guard carried out 14 unlawful irregular migration voyage interdictions in the Mona Passage and waters near Puerto Rico.

Interdicted during this period were 475 non-U.S. citizens, including 461 Dominican Republic nationals and 14 Haitians.
