10-year-old Zara ‘Zizi’ Grace Joseph lost her life suddenly while training with her sports club at the stadium in Vieux Fort.
Since her untimely death, family and friends have created the non-profit Zara Grace “Zizi” Foundation in her honour.
The foundation’s aim is to help children in the South achieve their full academic and sporting potential and develop life skills to contribute positively to society.
The late Zara “Zizi” Grace Joseph’s mother, Lisa Franklin Joseph, and the deceased’s aunt, Heather Franklin, told St. Lucia Times that the foundation has made substantial contributions to the youth of the South since its inception.
In 2022 and 2023, the foundation organized a Christmas toy drive, distributing 100 toys to children in Vieux Fort.
It also held a track meet featuring clubs across Saint Lucia and plans to expand the event.
In addition, the foundation has supported local students through bursaries.
In 2022, it awarded $300 each to 11 students for outstanding CPEA exam performances and $1,000 to the top student.
This year, the Zara Grace “Zizi” Foundation expanded its reach to five schools, awarding 16 students $300 each and $1,000 to the top performer.
Just this month, the foundation donated 100 school bags to students across five schools in the South.
The organization has expressed its commitment to expanding its efforts beyond the South to foster the growth and development of all children in Saint Lucia.
