Chastanet Urges Unity Against Violence After Teen’s Death

Opposition leader Allen Chastanet has urged unity in the face of escalating violence in the aftermath of this week’s fatal shooting of teenager Melchizedek Tixcy.

Tixcy would have celebrated his 14th Birthday on Friday, but on Wednesday, he died after sustaining a gunshot injury to the head.

According to reports confirmed by family members, his older brother was likely the intended target.

The family disclosed that the older brother, who is in his twenties, no longer lives at the Blanchard, Desruisseaux home.

However, on the evening of July 31, 2024, assailants opened fire at the residence, hitting the teenage student who was inside.

The incident has generated shockwaves, outrage, and expressions of sympathy throughout Saint Lucia.

Opposition leader Allen Chastanet, the MP for Micoud South, posted a Facebook message on Friday to mark what he described as Melchizedek’s “Happy Heavenly Birthday.”

The United Workers Party (UWP) leader and former Prime Minister called for unity against the rising violence in the community.

“Melchizedek was a promising young man with a bright future ahead of him, and his untimely death is a profound loss to our community,” the MP stated.

“In this moment of grief, we must come together not only to mourn such a vibrant young life but also to confront the senseless violence that continues to plague our communities,” Chastanet stated.

“We cannot let him be remembered simply as the 49th homicide of 2024. He was a good kid, and his life mattered. Let us honor Melchizedek’s memory by working together to create a safer environment for all our children and communities. Speak out, support initiatives against violence, and demand accountability and change from our leaders. Together, we can make a difference,” he asserted.

  1. I hate hypocrites, isn’t this is the same man who was promoting violence a few weeks ago? Isn’t this the man who said to flog people on the square? He was sown the seed of violence and corruption in this country, today he is singing a new calypso. Shame.

  2. What kind of prime minister st.lucia have?
He does not condem crimes when it happens. He does not come out swinging about crimes and killing in this country

  3. The opposition leader should train his 43%and likewise current party and its will be a win win for all of us..We need to start ASAP..

  4. You can’t negotiate with cancer. You don’t unite with cancer and expect to live. You clowns in power need to view these criminals exactly as they are, as an existential threat to society. This trying to pander to bad boys and gunslingers and this idle unity talk shows the weakness of the administrations. This is a cancer than needs to be eradicated. Each bullet can exterminate a life. A life for a life. Life in prison for each round of ammunition illegally in one’s possession. See how quickly this stops. They stopped those bad boys in El Salvador. Gangs 100 times worse than what we have here. Their president had the cojones to do what was necessary. Here we have tweedle dee and tweedle dumb running the parties.

  5. You forget the poor employees who loose their daily bread of refusing the vaccine 💉killer followed by the SLP…
Which was not a law neither prevention from getting such…
All those who looses their job due to should get a lawyer and take this matter to court…

  6. In the begining was the word..so therefore it is impossible for man to live without the word,in orther terms, without God and without Jesus, our days on earth are like a shadow, without hope,or like a man who builds his house on the sand,no assurance…

  7. It is very disturbing as a St. Lucian living abroad to hear of a 13 year old shot to death. If I remember some time ago a 3 year old toddler was also shot to death.

I am not certain what your policies are but clearly the criminal justice system needs immediate reformation. The whole country and its citizens should be in protest over this horrible act all over the island.

You all should be in protest all over the island taking to the streets at this time. Some of you chose to encourage and hide the criminal devils who will ultimately destroy your country and with it your economy.

To those who know who did this and have decided to remain silent and to the murderer may all of you never find rest in your mind and in your soul and may you be forever tormented 24/7 ….my God my God so sad so sad.

  8. To the opposition minister ..by the way I am neither UWP or SLP ..a Facebook post of sympathy is not enough to help your country with the violence which is destroying St. Lucia at its core ..you need to take the the streets as a leader along with your followers.
