Sharp Weapons A Growing Concern For The RSLPF

The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) has expressed concern over an increase in the number of sharp weapons individuals carry.

Although illegal firearms remain the primary focus for law enforcement, sharp weapons such as knives, cutlasses, and homemade implements are emerging as a significant threat to public safety, according to police.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday morning, Acting Commissioner of Police Verne Garde highlighted the worrying trend.

“Over the last month, we have seized a number of knives, cutlasses, and homemade weapons from individuals,” Garde reported.

“Some cases we have taken to the level of the courts, and some we have referred warnings because of the numbers.”

The RSLPF has urged individuals to act responsibly when handling sharp objects, particularly when transporting them.

Garde emphasised that these weapons should be properly wrapped and concealed, and he reminded the public to refrain from carrying such items with harmful intentions.

For the year 2024, more than five persons have lost their lives due to sharp weapons.
