Former Dallas Police Officer Amber Guyger was denied parole by the Texas Board of Pardons & Paroles on Thursday.
Guyger became infamous for the unlawful killing of Saint Lucian Botham Jean in his apartment and was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2019. She had previously appealed the sentence to no avail.
Responding to this latest development, Botham’s mother, Allison Jean, revealed that an online petition initiated by her family played a significant role in the parole denial.
“My family met with the parole board on Monday and petitioned them to deny Amber Guyger’s parole after she had served five of the ten years to which she was sentenced. In addition to that, there were several emails, letters, and a petition with over 6,300 signatures. All of that was presented to the parole board,” she said.
The victim’s mother expressed “relief,” noting that granting parole would have been a “slap in the face.”
“It shows that she has to take accountability for her actions in killing an innocent man in the comfort of his home,” Jean remarked. “We will go again and strongly petition the board for a further denial of her parole so that she serves the entire 10-year sentence. I want to thank everyone who supported us.”
The Jean family acknowledged the ordeal was difficult for them and emphasised the need for continued public support.

The audacity of Amber to be seeking for parole. You got a lenient sentence of 10 years for murdering someone in such a reckless manner and you want parole. I signed and shared that petition. Glad it was denied as it should rightfully be. Do your time woman!

A like 10 years and you crying? I knew Botham personally. I know his family. They are good people! I watched him grow up into the outstanding young man that he was.You killed him simply because you could!
