The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) reports that the K-9 added to its team in July 2024 has played a significant role in law enforcement, assisting in identifying contraband, including drugs, and illegal firearms.
The canine, gifted by the French Gendarmerie, has become a valuable asset in enhancing police operations, according to the RSLPF.
During a press conference on Tuesday, senior officers shared statistics that underscore the K-9 unit’s impact.
Drug-related offenses in Saint Lucia have increased by 15% in 2024, with a notable rise in cocaine seizures.
Police also reported the recovery of 72 illegal firearms and 1,318 rounds of ammunition between January and October 2024. The K-9 has been instrumental in several of these cases, aiding in the detection and recovery of illegal items.
“Thus far, the canine unit has participated in a number of operations, and of course during those operations, firearms and drugs would have been recovered. So, yes I would say it’s successful.” Deputy Police Commissioner, Dr. Mashama Sealy told reporters.
Given the success of the K-9, the RSLPF is considering additions to bolster future operations.

Just 1 K9, just imagine what a full compliment can achieve.
So only now the K 9 unit is good!! So when the Government removed it, how many guns came in and by extension how many people were killed and robbed with those same guns?
But you see as the sheeple would say we voted for that, we like it so.
So Pip now sees the value of the K-9 Unit. Oops I forgot you cannot see anything pass the length of your nose.
