SSU Intensifies Presence To Curb Burglaries

The Special Services Unit (SSU) of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force is intensifying its presence across the island during the holiday season in a bid to curb burglaries, thefts, and violent altercations that typically rise during this period.

“There are persons that will evade the presence of the police. We will be at all ends on the highways, on the byways, in the backroads of Saint Lucia. For persons who intend to create or plan burglary or go contrary to the laws of Saint Lucia, the Special Services Unit will be out there,” warned SSU Commander, Inspector Lucius Small, during a press conference earlier this week.

Inspector Small outlined a robust operational strategy to ensure the safety of citizens and visitors during the festive season. “The Special Services Unit has put in place an operational strategic plan to heighten patrols in the city of Castries, both mobile and foot patrols, in Gros Islet, and also in the southern part of the island,” he explained.

This enhanced presence will focus on urban centers like Castries, where violent altercations are known to spike during the holidays. “We’re going to hype up our patrols in the city and surrounding areas to prevent crimes that typically occur before and during the festive season,” Inspector Small added.

The SSU Commander made it clear that the heightened patrols are aimed at deterring potential offenders. “We will be on the highways, byways, and backroads of Saint Lucia,” he emphasized. “For those who plan to engage in burglary or violate the laws of Saint Lucia, the Special Services Unit will be ready to act.”

The initiative aligns with the police force’s broader efforts to maintain law and order during a time when heightened consumer activity and celebrations often attract criminal behavior.

Inspector Small’s message was intended to be a deterrent to would-be offenders and a reassurance to the public. With visible patrols and strategic deployments, the SSU aims to ensure a safe and secure environment for all Saint Lucians this holiday season.

Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police to support the SSU’s efforts in maintaining peace and safety during the festive period.
