Suddenly Cash – EuroMillions Winners In Saint Lucia Offer Advice

Suddenly coming into a lot of  money is a dream for many. It’s investing and actually making it last that they may find difficult.

However, this is not the case for UK couple Bill and Cath Mullarkey who returned to the UK from Saint Lucia to a very special message, telling them they had won £1 million in the National Lottery in 2017.

“When we reached, we realised, we got texts saying, you know, congratulations, you’ve won, so we phoned the lottery hotline and they confirmed it. And then it was life-changing.” Bill Mullarkey.

For the couple, this new windfall meant that they could finally live their dream of owning a home and establishing their dream restaurant right here in Saint Lucia. For the Mallurkeys, investing in a restaurant was quite fitting. Bill has been a trained chef from the age of 16, and Cath has enjoyed cooking all of her life.

At that time I thought I knew it all, French cuisine, until I came here [Saint Lucia] and got the job, looked at the menu and thought to myself, what’s a dasheen? What’s a plantain? I realised I don’t know everything, but now I quickly learnt the cuisines of the island and the ingredients and how to use and be creative with them,” Bill told St. Lucia Times.

Brigands Hideaway opened its doors in December of 2023, and according to the couple, it’s been a joyful ride ever since. Located in  Rabot Estate, Soufriere, Bill and Cathy say they get most of their customers from the Hotel Chocolat nearby.

We’ve heard several horror stories of persons winning the lottery and losing it all in a short time, however Bill says his most important advice to persons who just came into money, is to wait it out a bit.

Take time. Don’t go on a spending spree. Take a month or two months. Let it sink in and decide what you want to do with it.

Satisfied, they say is the perfect word to describe how they feel about their life right now, with plans for expansion of Brigands Hideaway in the future.

  1. This couple is making themselves a target. They are talking too much and the media is facilitating it. Lucians are not dumb; we know how to manage money and what happens if we don’t. Perhaps it’s a way to advertise their business for free?

  2. In addition to the advice which i am thankful for …i would like 150,000 please to purchase my dream land :). I too woulld like to own my dream home one day

  3. People need to be more quiet about disclosing their wealth and enjoy their lives it’s not a joke out here . Not because u have a few millions you become advisers and a know all.

  4. I understand their need to express their gratitude and future plans however when it comes to winning the lottery it’s best to express themselves anonymously …Congratulations to you both

  5. Thank God, and stop talking about it, what you’re doing or your next move… happy for you both, keep it on a down low please…

  6. Congratulations, be careful though, the Island is not the sweet Island it once was. The people have become jealous, vindictive and aggressive. Some of them will pretend to be your friend and supportive but deep in their heart they are planning and plotting against you. They cannot be trusted, be on your guard. Wishing you all the best.

  7. While they are offering good advice I would like to urge them to exercise caution. Money is what makes this world go round and people with it should not be talking about it all the time. Look at the Barclay brothers and the Rothchild family. They have billions and you don’t hear them giving interviews or talking openly about their wealth. They play mean and don’t keep friends. The only mates that they keep are those who are wealthy like them. They don’t like the idea of people coming in with a begging bowl. They hide out in tax havens like the Bahamas, Bermuda, Andorra, Belize and Panama. The people in these territories barely know who they are.

I would like to implore this couple to stop rattling on about their new found wealth. Keep things to yourselves. There are lots of envious people out there especially in England. The English are known to be stingy, nosy and envious. They don’t like to see their fellow English do well or better than themselves. I know them very well.
Cath or Katrinet as she is otherwise known by is a lovely lady and had good parents from the Barond’s Drive area. She has a cousin called Mad Max who is a no nonsense fellow. Her cousin Zandy just passed away in London a couple of weeks ago and his funeral will be next week in the Big Orange.

I would like to wish her and her husband all the very best for the future… Please stop talking to the English tabloids. They have a nasty habit of lifting you up one minute and bringing you down the next. Be careful Mullarkeys!

  8. It’s pretty amazing how some people only see and focus on the negativity in almost everything. One of the driving forces in negativity is jealousy. With that said, everyone ought to exercise caution in daily activities, from the last winner of the lottery in Saint Lucia whose name and picture was broadcasted during the cheque giving ceremony, to the market vendor or taxi operator.

  9. Who is wise, who knows the explanation of things ???
Better jealous a godly person than an ungodly..
All man’s effort are for his mouth, though the eyes never stop seeing and yet his appetite never satisfied, wisdom better folly..

What God bless no man curseth ”..
    Ecclesiastes is saying :
So I commend the enyoyment of life, because nothing is better for a man under the sun than to eat and drink and be glad.
Then joy will accompany him in his work all the days of the life God has given him under the sun to eat your food with gladness, and drink your wine with joyful heart, for it is now that favors what you do..
Enyoy life with your wife, whom you love, all the days of this meaningless life that God has given you under the sun _ all your meaningless days..
For this is your lot in life and in your toilsome labor under the sun 🌞‼️
