Dora Henry was elected president of the Saint Lucia Athletics Association (SLAA) at the weekend, taking over from Brendaline Descartes, who was ineligible to seek re-election. Henry, who has served as assistant secretary and vice-president of the SLAA, defeated Titus Elien 18-6.
Henry is an administrative secretary at the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College. She was one of the founding members of Saint Lucia’s National Volunteers Programme in 2003.
A technical official since 2017, Henry was awarded Technical Official of the Year in 2019, and Administrator of the Year in 2023.
Henry is fresh from earning certification as a moderator/trainer in gender leadership through World Athletics. That course was held in Nassau, The Bahamas, from November 14-18, and brought together 20 participants from across the North America, Central America, and the Caribbean region.
The newly elected executive includes five women and four men. Makeba Alcide is first vice-president, whilst Patrick Mathurin is second vice-president. Wayne Benti is secretary, assisted by Cornelia Ann Shirley Lubin. Cornelius Breen was returned unopposed as treasurer. Jonathan Emmanuel is public relations officer, and the floor representatives are Lisa Joseph and Laricia Laurent.
The present executive will serve until 2026.
