Residents in northern Saint Lucia are being urged to store water ahead of a scheduled service interruption on Wednesday, March 5, when the Water and Sewerage Company Inc. (WASCO) will carry out urgent repairs to a key pipeline.
The disruption, which is expected to last up to 48 hours after the completion of the repairs, will impact communities from Millet to Cap Estate, excluding the Babonneau region. WASCO said the maintenance will be carried out on the 24-inch raw water pipeline, which supplies water from the John Compton Dam in Millet.
According to WASCO, the repairs are necessary to address ongoing issues with the aging infrastructure, which was installed over 40 years ago. Officials say that while the company is aware of the inconvenience caused by recent unplanned disruptions, this scheduled intervention aims to improve service.
“These repairs are critical in resolving these issues,” WASCO said in a statement. “Once completed, consumers should notice a significant improvement in water pressure and frequency of supply.”
WASCO has also assured the public that the maintenance work will help reduce future water losses and improve efficiency at the Theobalds Treatment Plant, ultimately leading to a more stable water supply.
In providing the early notice so that residents can store sufficient water in advance of the service disruption, WASCO noted that once the maintenance is complete, the restoration process could take longer for households at higher elevations and those located farther from the distribution system.
Residents have been advised to look out for updates on the water company’s website and social media platforms for further updates.
“WASCO apologises for the inconvenience and appreciates the public’s understanding as we work toward improving service reliability,” it said.

We cannot store water. We havent had water in Grande Riviere for weeks.
How the hell does WASCO expect us to store water that they do not supply us with.
How are we supposed to store water, when we currently have no water in the pipes for days now.
We are currently unable to store water, since we haven’t had water for a week in Beausejour. Are water trucks supposed to pass by?
When people are taken for Joe by this so call water supply paying for water and don’t get the service you pay for one day one day one day the same good people will turn into a beast nature.
These idiots did the shutdown days before the date announced and did not have the decency to update the public on that as well as whether another shutdown was still happening on the original date.
