Ruby Crowned Queens And Kings Of Piaye Sports

Behind a tremendous performance from Mackiva Innocent in the Under-11 girls, Ruby House repeated as champions at the Piaye Combined School (PCS) Athletics Championships. The Interhouse Track Meet was held on Thursday at the Piaye Community Field.

Following the road race and cricket ball throw, there were only 13 points between first and second. Ruby, on 145 points, led Topaz on 136, and Sapphire on 132. But come the track meet, Ruby shone brightly, ending with 701 points to top Topaz on 564, and Sapphire on 442.

Innocent won all five events in her division, from the shortest sprint to the longest run. Defending athlete of the year at PCS, she was clocked at 14.3 for the 80m, 27.5 for the 150m, 1:03 for the 300m, 2:33.3 for the 600m, and 4:38 for the 1000m, the unquestioned victrix ludorum. Earlier in the term, she had taken silver in ball throw.

But the rest of the house was dominant as well, albeit not so much so as Innocent. In the Under-13 division, Ruby’s Angel Charlery Ruby won the 80m and 150m in 12.5 and 24.3, and was second in the 600m. Alpha Edward of Sapphire ran 2:23.6 to win that event.

Ruby star Kelania Charles ran 12.3 to win the Under-9 60m, 33.2 for the 150m, and 1:21.5 for the 300m. Serena Pierre took the Under-7 40m in 8.3, and the 80m in 32.9 seconds.

Ruby’s Christian Joseph and D’Andre Louis of Topaz had an interesting battle in the Under-13 boys. Joseph won the 80m in 12.2, and the 600m in 2:14.0, but Louis ran 23.8 to capture the 150m, and 55.8 for the 300m. Kimarvey Mathurin ran 5:02.5 to top the 1200m.

In the Under-11 category, Caiden Charles of Topaz took the 600 in 2:18.0, and the 300m in 58.0, but Ruby’s Noah Clarke stopped the clock at 12.4 for gold in the 80m, and Erneal Augustin of Topaz was timed at 24.3 to top the 150m.

Mervano James of Topaz ran 1:19.8 in the 300m for Under-9 boys. Vice Charles got a rare gold medal for Sapphire, with 29.3 in the 150m. And Ruby’s Curt Mitchel ran 11.0 for the 60m. In the Under-7 class, Joziah Charles did the 40m and 150m double for Topaz, coming in at 36.0 for the latter race.
