Timeout Entertainment Scores Big with ‘Futsal for A Cause’

It was a night of high-energy action and philanthropy as Timeout Entertainment hosted its annual Futsal for a Cause initiative on Saturday, February 8, at the Beausejour Indoor Facility. The event brought together futsal enthusiasts and supporters for an evening that balanced intense competition with a strong focus on giving back.

The atmosphere was electric, reminiscent of Corporate Warfare—the popular business-based futsal competition facilitated by Timeout Entertainment–but with a more relaxed and charitable spirit. A diverse crowd gathered to enjoy four exciting matchups, each filled with fast-paced action and unpredictable twists.

The night’s opening match saw the Saint Lucia Distillers Strikers face off against Team Heineken Saint Lucia in the Industry Derby. McArthur Louis opened the scoring for the Distillers in the 8th minute, but Wilson Charlemagne equalised for Heineken Saint Lucia in the 15th minute. Just before halftime, Nicky Henry restored the Distillers’ lead, making it 2-1.

The second half saw a dramatic turnaround, with Erick Gabriel leading Heineken’s comeback. Gabriel scored the equaliser and assisted Daniel Lansiquot who netted two goals in quick succession. Malyk Athanaze added another, sealing a 5-3 victory for Heineken Saint Lucia. Ray J. Joseph scored the Distillers’ third goal.

The second match reignited a Timeout Entertainment rivalry in what was dubbed the Courtside Derby. Tonius Simon struck early for Team Thierry, but Team Dr Peppa responded with three quick goals from Akeal Anthony, Ned Harris, and Rivaldo Charlemagne. The first half ended 3-2 in favour of Dr Peppa.

The second half was a goal fest. Sherkim Hunt and Ned Harris added two more for Dr Peppa, while Tonius Simon scored a brace and Irvin Faucher added another for Thierry. The game ended 5-5 in regulation time, but Team Dr Peppa emerged victorious in the penalty shootout.

One of the standout moments of the night was the invitational fixture featuring the best players from Corporate Warfare—the Timeout Entertainment Allstars—against Martinique’s futsal club, Releve Lamentinoise. Martinique’s Cédric Dégras was unstoppable, scoring all six goals for his team in their 6-4 victory. For the Allstars, Andrus Remy recorded a hat trick, and Shadin Noel added one more.

The grand finale of the night was the Celebrity Match, which pitted former Soca Monarch Imran Nerdy’s team against Bawse Cartel. This match was about more than bragging rights—it was an opportunity to give back to local schools. Proceeds from the game went to support the football programs at Corinth Secondary School, represented by Team Nerdy, and Vieux Fort Comprehensive Secondary School, represented by Bawse Cartel. Some funds were also allocated to the SALA Futsal Champs, a secondary school futsal competition.

Team Nerdy dominated the match, securing a 9-2 victory.

Timeout Entertainment co-founder Lionel John highlighted the growth of futsal in Saint Lucia as a tool for both entertainment and youth development.

“Traditionally, Futsal for a Cause has supported important causes on the island,” said John. “Through our tournaments, we’ve seen significant growth. Earlier this year, we hosted the SALA Futsal Champs for Under-15 secondary school students, and the interest in futsal has been tremendous.”

Celebrity Match champion captain Imran Nerdy expressed his joy at participating in the initiative, especially since it allowed him to give back to Corinth Secondary School—a cause close to his heart.

“The Corinth Secondary School is a school I always wanted to support but never got the chance,” said Nerdy. “So we decided to do it for the kids, to ensure they receive something wonderful.”
