The highly anticipated lower secondary school segment of the National Schools’ Science Quiz saw exciting and fierce competition on Thursday, with Vieux Fort Comprehensive School emerging as the champion.
St Mary’s College placed second and Beanefield Comprehensive Secondary School was third in the competition, which was held in the Finance Administrative Centre (FAC) Conference Room.

On Wednesday, eight schools competed in the primary school level of the contest.
The winner was Dame Pearlette Louisy Primary School, while Camille Henry Memorial School was second and Micoud Primary School was third.

Organised by the Curriculum and Materials Development Unit (CAMDU), the quiz sought to expand scientific knowledge, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills among secondary school students. Schools from all districts participated, showcasing their understanding of various scientific disciplines, including physics, chemistry, biology, and environmental science.
Anya James, Curriculum Officer for Natural Sciences, welcomed the participants, celebrating both knowledge and the role of science in shaping the future.
“Today, we celebrate knowledge, we celebrate curiosity, and we also celebrate the role of science and technology in shaping our world,” James said. She added that the theme for the quiz, Transforming Imagination to Innovation for a Sustainable Future, was a reminder that science is about “understanding the world, asking the right questions and thinking critically about solutions for the future”.
The secondary schools had been placed in four zones, with the top two from each zone advancing to the final competition.
The schools competing on Thursday were St Mary’s College, Saint Lucia Sports Academy, Castries Comprehensive Secondary, Entrepot Secondary, Soufriere Comprehensive Secondary, Clendon Mason Memorial Secondary, Vieux Fort Comprehensive Secondary, and Beanefield Comprehensive Secondary.
James congratulated all participating students for making it to the quiz, emphasising that the event was an opportunity for learning and growth.
“To the participating students, congratulations for making it this far. Your hard work and dedication have brought you here, and we are excited to see you showcase your scientific knowledge,” she said.
James closed with encouraging words for all competitors: “It’s about discovery, and every question that you answer will add to your journey of learning.”
