SJC, SMC, VFCSS, CCSS Win in Schools’ Volleyball

The Ministry of Youth Development and Sports Under-19 Boys and Girls Schools’ Volleyball Tournament began on Tuesday at the Vigie Multipurpose Sports Complex. In a term where athletics and cricket have been adversely affected by unseasonal weather, the volleyballers were blessed with good conditions.

St Joseph’s Convent (SJC) triumphed over Soufrière Comprehensive Secondary School (SCSS) in straight sets in Group B to claim victory in the opening game, 25-18, 25-20.

Also in Group B, Vieux Fort Comprehensive Secondary School (VFCSS) pulled out all the stops to defeat a determined Vieux Fort Post Secondary (VFPS) 2-1. VFCSS took the first set 25-16, but VFPS overcame a five-point deficit to edge them out in the second set 27-25.

With the match level at 1-1, the two teams went into a third set. Despite the scorching heat, both teams carried the momentum into a third set. VFSCC was the more determined of the two teams and won a ding-dong battle 15-13.

Two matches were also played in the boys’ category on the same day. In Game 1 of Group B, St Mary’s College (SMC) defeated SCSS in straight sets, 25-22, 27-25.

In Game 2 of Group B, Castries Comprehensive Secondary School enjoyed a similar margin of victory, defeating Vieux Fort Comprehensive Secondary School 25-21, 25-16.

SJC and SMC were finalists in 2024 when Sir Arthur Lewis Community College swept both titles.
