Nearly 100 Businesses on Show As Vieux Fort Hosts Business Expo for First Time

For the first time since its inception in 2022, Vieux Fort played host to the Saint Lucia Business Expo, with nearly 100 businesses from the south of the island.

The two-day event held from February 14 to 15, was a major milestone for the southern town which had often been overlooked in national development efforts.

Parliamentary Representative for Vieux Fort South, Dr Kenny Anthony, welcomed attendees and expressed his hope that this event would not be a mere symbolic gesture.

He highlighted Vieux Fort’s crucial role in Saint Lucia’s economic landscape, emphasising the town’s contribution to exports and trade.

“Your main exporters are located here in Vieux Fort, and they’re responsible for a lot of the financial exchange that this country earns,” he noted.

CEO of Export Saint Lucia, Sunita Daniel, echoed these sentiments in her opening remarks, celebrating the country’s entrepreneurial spirit.

“This event is a reflection of our country’s innovation and dedication to local businesses,” she said. “We are proud to feature a diverse range of high-quality goods that showcase Saint Lucia’s craftsmanship and industry.”

The expo featured businesses such as Reel Time Adventures, Cria’s Catering, Disability Uncapped, and RainForest Foods. Exhibitors spanned various sectors, from traditional industries to emerging small businesses, with a strong emphasis on local products and exports like sea moss, and local arts and crafts.

Daniel also stressed the importance of economic inclusivity, stating that initiatives like the expo ensure that opportunities are not concentrated in the north but benefit the entire island.
