Soufrière defeated Vieux Fort South by eight wickets in Prime Minister’s Cup cricket action on Wednesday night at the Gros Islet Playing Field.
Having won the toss and opting to bat first, the Southerners posted a total of 136 runs in their innings. This restricted score was largely due to exceptional bowling from Soufrière, with Bradley Tisson leading the attack, finishing with figures of 2-14, while Xystus Emmanuel bagged 2-18.
The standout performer with the bat for Vieux Fort South was Gibson Joseph, who scored a solid 60 off 45 balls, including six fours and one six.
In response, the men from Sulphur City made light work of the target, reaching the total in just 8.4 overs. A fiery innings from opener Julian Sylvester proved crucial in this achievement, as he smashed an unbeaten 75 off only 25 balls, hitting four fours and nine sixes. Sylvester was well-supported by his opening partner, Xystus Emmanuel, who played an explosive cameo, scoring 35 off 16 balls, including five fours and two sixes.
The pick of the bowlers for Vieux Fort South was Alden Lewis who finished with two wickets for 32 runs.
This dominant victory places Soufrière comfortably at the top of their group with four points. They will be hoping to maintain this strong form throughout the competition.
