Dr Cato Laurencin, Sammy, Spencer, Alfred Among 2025 National Awardees

Pioneer in regenerative engineering, Dr Cato Thomas Laurencin, is to be conferred with the Knight Commander of the Order of Saint Lucia, leading a list of awardees at the official investiture ceremony, which takes place on March 16 at Government House.

Dr Laurencin, internationally recognised for his groundbreaking contributions to his field, will receive the award for his exceptional and outstanding service of national importance to Saint Lucia.

Three distinguished athletes who have represented Saint Lucia at the highest level on the world stage will be awarded the Saint Lucia Cross:

  • Daren Sammy – for his contributions to cricket and youth development
  • Levern Spencer – for her achievements in high jump
  • Julien Alfred – for her excellence in track and field

The Saint Lucia Medal of Honour (Gold) will be conferred upon:

  • Peter Irvin Foster – for his contributions to law
  • Dr Morgan Dalphinis – for his work in linguistics, particularly Saint Lucian Kwéyòl
  • Giles Romulus – for his impact on community and national development

Receiving the Saint Lucia Medal of Honour (Silver) are:

  • Reverend Fr. Ignatius Dominic-Savio Cetoute – for his contributions to liturgy and community development
  • Dominic Chester Alexander – for his efforts in national, economic, and youth development
  • Egbert Lucien – for his work in poetry, community service, and nation-building

Other notable awards to be presented at the ceremony include:

  • The Saint Lucia Medal of Merit (Gold), awarded to Philip Zephyrin Calixte (calypso songwriting), Pancras Mc Griffin Theodore (education and community development), and Lincarn Francis (education and community development).
  • The Saint Lucia Medal of Merit (Silver), presented to John Peters (engineering), Evangelis Irene Desir (education and community development), and Hamilton Couman (education and community development).
  • The Saint Lucia Les Pitons Medal (Gold) (SLPM), given to Cyprian Duplesis (sports), Tedburt Reynold Theobalds (community development), and Alphia Emmanuel (arts).
  • The Saint Lucia Les Pitons Medal (Silver) (SLPM), awarded to Mathilda Nelson (community service), Pastor Sherwin Griffith (education and liturgy), and Virgil Burke (arts).
  • The Saint Lucia Les Pitons Medal (Bronze) (SLPM), presented to Darwin Clement and Nelista Rambally for community service and development, respectively.

Additionally, the National Service Cross will be awarded posthumously to Superintendent Burton Deterville, while Charles Alcee will receive the National Service Medal for his distinguished service to the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force.

Three people – Kieran James, Deland Jules, and Cyril Saltibus – will be honoured with the National Service Cross for their contributions to the Saint Lucia Cadet Corps.

Several public servants will also be recognised with the Public Services Long Service Award for their dedication and commitment to national service: Pamela Cadet-Deterville, Leton Anacletus Lawrence, Egditha Blanchard, Neila Alphonse, Kentry Frederick, Fanicia Poyotte, Margarita Remy, Lucella King, Justin St Marie, Constantine Defreitas, Maclean Emmanuel and Stephen Weekes.
