Charles, Eleuthere Dominate Independence Table Tennis

Shatal Charles was the most outstanding player at the just-finished 2025 Independence Day Classic Table Tennis Championships, grabbing individual titles in three categories and capping her tournament off with a third-place finish in the open division. Manie Eleuthere was a double winner as well.

The competition was held the past two weekends at the National Table Tennis Centre.

Charles, formerly a student of the Patricia D James Secondary School, won the women’s open, Under-19, and Under-15 titles. She established true dominance and didn’t drop a set along the way. In the women’s open class, she won all five matches 3-0, defeating Daniella Symphorien in the final. Cherese Darcheville took third place.

Symphorien also took second among the Under-19 girls, where Charles was again 5-0. Ernaya Clerice took third. Charles went 4-0 in the Under-15’s, Lyzan Seraphin taking second, and third place shared between Nerfetari Goddard and Germina Isidore. Charles’ only loss came in the Under-19 Open, where she shared third place with Khamari Harris.

Winning the Under-19 was Eleuthere, who also got to his first senior title on the opening weekend of the competition.  He beat Leshon Francis for the men’s title. For the Under-19 win, the first of his career, he overcame Joshua Lubin 3-0 in the final.

Leshon Francis was the Boys Under-15 gold medallist, triumphing over 10-year-old Reuben Harris and finishing with a 6-0 record. Verkim Desir and Juan Frias shared third. Reuben Harris, meanwhile, claimed his first National Under-13 title, winning all his matches unbeaten. Louie Arthur and Juan Frias completed the podium.

Lyzan Seraphin fought hard to win the Girls Under-13, finishing with a 5-1 record. Katelyn Montoute and Germina Isidore were second and third. All three are from Anse La Raye. Montoute won her first national title in the Under-11 group. Emma-Lee Wells was second, and Danaly Edward third.
