Six to Punch For Saint Lucia In Guadeloupe

President of the Saint Lucia Boxing Association, David ‘Shakes’ Christopher is confident of the team`s performance at the 2025 Caribbean Trophy Boxing Tournament in Guadeloupe this coming weekend. 

The SLBA is sending six fighters to the French territory at the invitation of the Regional Boxing Committee, L’Association Ligue De Guadeloupe De Boxe Française. 

Following weeks of strategic preparation, Christopher talked up Saint Lucia’s strong record in Guadeloupe, stating categorically that he is expecting more of the same. 

“On this occasion, we expect nothing less for this team of seasoned athletes, especially following the recent showing at the AMBC Caribbean Boxing Championships,” he said. 

John Didier from the Vieux Fort gym is expected to lead the charge, along with the region’s best junior boxer, Nathan Alex. Team captain Kyghan Mortley, along with Danaii Cooman, Justice Joseph, and Kyle Marcel will also take to the ring. They will be guided by head coach Conrad Fredericks and senior coach Yunior Quintero-Perez. Shannon Lebourne is the team manager, while Christopher will head the delegation.

Christopher will be holding talks with boxing leaders from the French overseas territories while in Guadeloupe to discuss areas of mutual interest and cooperation for the future development of boxing in individual countries and the revival of the Creole Boxing Championships.

Tam Saint Lucia travels on Wednesday. The three-day competition gets underway on Thursday afternoon at the Gymnase Laura Flessel in Petit-Bourg. The athletes will undergo medicals and weigh-in ahead of the technical meeting.
