The community of Bois d’Inde, Jacmel, is mourning the death of 10-year-old Amelia Isidore following an incident at her school earlier this week.
Isidore reportedly collapsed during a regular Physical Education class after suffering a medical emergency. Efforts were made to transport her to a healthcare facility where lifesaving interventions were administered, but she later passed away.
The incident has devastated the close-knit community and prompted an official response from Minister for Education Kenson Casimir, who expressed his grief in a Facebook post, urging caution as investigations continue.
“I am indeed saddened by the passing of Amelia Isidore, a 10-year-old student of the Roseau Combined School. The information regarding this tragedy has not been entirely verified, and as such, the ministry will await the findings of the medical and legal investigations before making any definitive pronouncements.
“My thoughts and prayers go out to the family, students, teachers, friends and loved ones of Amelia and I pray for God’s guidance upon them in this difficult time. Let us keep them in our thoughts and prayers. May she rest in perfect peace.”
Members of the community and the wider public have also shared messages of grief and support with Isidore’s family. One community member wrote, “Over the past few weeks, our community has lost a number of elders and loved ones. To her mother and father, we know there are no words strong enough for this pain. Hold strong. You are not alone.”
Isidore was a student of the Roseau Combined School, where she was described by those who knew her as a kind, fun, and loving child.
