Saint Lucia’s top golfer had a strong outing this week at the Wright State Invitational Tournament, played at the Heatherwoode Golf Club in Springboro, Ohio, USA. Yadhu Urs had his best round and best tournament ever, leading the Ohio Dominican Panthers men’s squad to a school record and their best finish this season.
Urs returned to the clubhouse tied for seventh, with a season-low and career-low 4-under 209. Just 21 years old, he also tied his best single-round career mark with a 3-under 68, to go along with a 1-over 72, and a 2-under 69 to lead ODU to a third-place finish in the 12-team field, comprising mainly Division I schools. Between Sunday and Monday, the Panthers shot a school-record 844 (-8).
Tyler Andersen came in tied for 11th, shooting a career-best 3-under 210. He also led ODU with 13 birdies, tied for sixth overall. Jeremiah Bane and Jackson shot a 1-over 214 for the tournament, tied in 29th place. Nash Linder and Bryce Cobb tied in 35th place at 3-over 216.
Nathan Menapace was 67th after a career-low 224 (+11). Jack Lindgren tied for 78th place at 230 (+17), and Kolin McKee scored 243 (+30).
In 2023, still just a teenager, Urs achieved what the Saint Lucia Golf Association at the time described as the most significant achievement in this country’s golf history, tying in 19th place out of 108 players at the Latin American Amateur Championship.
Urs and the ODU men’s golf team will next contest the 2025 Great Midwest Championship, from Monday next at Belterra Golf Club in Florence, Indiana.
