Top 10 Finish and First Relay Medal for Saint Lucia in CARIFTA Aquatics

Saint Lucia achieved two massive milestones on the final night of the CARIFTA Aquatics Championships on Tuesday, with a fourth gold medal for Sapphire Parks and the nation’s first relay medal ever at this level, bronze for the 15-17 boys’ freestyle team.

Parks completed a dominant CARIFTA debut with gold in the 11-12 girls’ 200m backstroke, taking her total medal tally to eight. She swam 2:35.97, a personal-best mark.

Sapphire Parks tastes gold again.

Her four gold, two silver, and two bronze medals earned her the high point trophy in her division. She is slated to return in 2026, when the meet will be held in Martinique. The young star told St Lucia Times she will be aiming to retain her high point trophy, and she hopes to target at least one CARIFTA record.

Celebrating the historic relay win.

History was also made with the relay team’s unprecedented bronze. Tristan Dorville, Antoine Destang, Karic Charles, and Ethan Hazell stopped the clock in 1:36.46. The group has been racing together for over 10 years. It’s the second time they have made history for the island. In 2020, they won gold together in this same event at the UANA Championships in Peru.

With Destang the only one of the quartet returning to the CARIFTA ranks in 2026, the team regarded this feat as truly special. Charles and Hazell said the boys regard each other as family. Destang and Dorville will both be starting university later this year, and their ambitions will turn to continuing their swimming journey as seniors.

Saint Lucia finished 10th out of 24 teams, with 13 total medals—their biggest haul ever.

The tally included four gold, four silver, and five bronze medals.
