Olympic sailor Luc Chevrier expressed satisfaction with his performance but remained eager for greater success after securing 11th place at his second Grand Slam event of 2025.
The 25-year-old navigated challenging conditions this week at French Olympic Week in Hyères, competing against 111 sailors in his class before concluding his campaign on Friday.
Chevrier finished with 111 net points, just two points shy of the top 10, a result that would have secured him a spot in the medal race. Across nine races, he recorded four top-10 finishes. Hong Kong’s Nicholas Halliday claimed victory with 40 points, followed by the Netherlands’ Duko Bos (63) and New Zealand’s Thomas Saunders (65).
“It was a tricky week, but we managed to finish on a high note. I got another personal best on the Olympic circuit,” Chevrier said. “This is my best result at a world-class event, so I am happy with the work that has been paying off this year.
“The conditions were good. The first few days were strong, then the wind died down to the end of the competition. I just need to iron a few things out.”
Chevrier, a two-time Olympian for Saint Lucia (Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024), will return home in the coming weeks before preparing for his next competition in Germany at the end of June. During his time on the island, he will complete a one-month internship.
With his focus firmly on qualifying for Los Angeles 2028, where he aims to deliver Saint Lucia’s best-ever sailing result, Chevrier can take pride in his achievements under the national flag. His accolades include a bronze medal at the 2022 Junior Pan American Games and another at the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games.
