ECA Lions, NCA Warriors on collision course in Loloy youth basketball

East Coast Academy (ECA) Lions maintained their perfect start to the fifth annual Aloysius “Loloy” Daniel Youth Basketball Tournament, dismantling Basketball For The Future (BFTF) Pitbulls 115-28 at the Beausejour Gymnasium on Tuesday.

Defending champions New Chapter Academy (NCA) Warriors also stayed unbeaten, while Antigua & Barbuda’s Pitbulls got their first win.

Sage Lewis delivered another commanding performance to take the ECA Lions to two victories, pouring in 23 points while collecting seven steals and four rebounds.

Lewis was matched by Riquelmi Pierre, who registered a game-high 26 points, to go with seven rebounds and seven steals. The Lions dictated the tempo from the opening tip, storming to a 58-17 halftime lead before detonating for a 40-point fourth quarter to seal the victory.

Earlier on Day 2, the Antigua Pitbulls shook off their opening-round loss, overwhelming ECA Tigers 145-23. Elijah Charles spearheaded the win with 21 points, five rebounds, and four assists, while Noah Messiah added 19 points and two steals.

Jadyn Gabriel led the resistance for the young Tigers, finishing with four points and eight rebounds.

Meanwhile, Trinidad & Tobago’s NCA Warriors preserved their flawless record, rolling past Guyana’s D-Up Academy 119-31 behind a 20-point showing from Josiah John-Andrew. D-Up’s Eli Archer registered a 10-point, five-rebound, four-steal effort.

Through two days of competition, the standings feature a tie at the summit. The Warriors (2-0, 4 points) hold first place with a +121 point differential, closely shadowed by the ECA Lions (2-0, 4 points), who boast the tournament’s stingiest defence and a +128 differential.

The Antigua Pitbulls (1-1, 3 points) and BFTF Pitbulls (1-1, 3 points) occupy third and fourth place respectively, while D-Up Academy (0-2, 2 points) and the ECA Tigers (0-2, 2 points) round out the table.

The stage is now set for a pivotal showdown on Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. at Beausejour Gymnasium, where the unbeaten ECA Lions square off against the surging Antigua Pitbulls in a marquee clash with significant championship implications.
