At Monday’s pre-Cabinet press briefing, Micoud North Parliamentary Representative Jeremiah Norbert celebrated the “successful” debut of Jazz en Vierge, held against the backdrop of Pointe Vierge, Saint Lucia’s longest peninsula.
Headlined by Jamaican artist Sanchez and featuring a mix of local and regional talent, the event highlighted Pointe Vierge’s potential as a premier venue for large-scale events. Norbert praised the location’s scenic beauty, comparing it to Pigeon Island, the traditional home of Saint Lucia Jazz’s mainstage performances.
“We have the ability to host mainstage events here,” Norbert declared. “Pointe Vierge is the new home for Jazz in Saint Lucia.”
Beyond major concerts, he noted that the peninsula’s picturesque setting makes it ideal for smaller gatherings, including weddings. However, he stressed that while such opportunities could stimulate Micoud’s economy, development must be carefully managed.
“I need to also caution and guard against the type of activities that are going to be held at Pointe Vierge as a community it is something that we hold dearly; it is our gem,” Norbert said.
He further emphasised Pointe Vierge’s potential as a tourism asset, envisioning it as a key stop along the scenic route from Vieux Fort to the island’s north. Yet his priority remains ensuring controlled development that primarily benefits Micoud’s residents.
“We would love to open it up to these types of activities,” he added. “All we’re saying is that it has to be managed and contained in a way that is beneficial to the people of Micoud North.”
These grab and go artists should give patrons their monies worth during their performance. Sanchez was a disappointment- he basically rattled through two verses from each songs and collected his monies and left. This is not what I was expecting as a main artist for the opening event. We should discourage that type of behavior from those performanors.
