Ryan Philogene kept Courts Jets in playoff contention with a commanding 69-49 victory over East Coast Academy in Monday night’s KFC National Basketball League action at the Beausejour Gymnasium.
Philogene compiled 29 points to go along with 12 rebounds and eight steals.
After seven games, Jets are 4-3, but they have played most of their games so far against the league’s other top teams. With 11 points, they are just one back of league leaders Bonne Terre Blazers, themselves unbeaten after six games.
Defending champions Soufriere Kings are 4-1, with two games in hand on Jets. Basketball For The Future and Morne Gladiators are tied with eight points each. Both teams are 3-2, but BFTF has a superior point spread.
Jets went down to Blazers in their previous game at the weekend, losing 69-60. Glen Antoine had 12 points and seven rebounds for the winners. Troy Louison added 16 and eight. The shorthanded Jets got 20 points from Ryan Philogene and 18 from Jovanny Antoine.
Kings, meanwhile, thrashed Combined Schools 84-55, behind Jayzee Saltibus’s 37 points and 22 rebounds, Linzell Alcee’s 10 points and 15 rebounds, and Clayton Williams’ 10 and 12. For Combined Schools, Junior Dupree had 14 and 12.
The league is on a one-week break, with games resuming next Tuesday, May 13. Gladiators and Soufriere will meet in what should be an intriguing matchup of two top-five teams. But Jets also get to play bottom-of-the-table Combined Schools, who have just one win from five games so far.
