Saint Lucians share spoils on Dominica tour

Honours are evenly shared so far in the Northern Windwards Bilateral Tapeball Tournament. Saint Lucia’s veterans have won two of their three fixtures, while the youth team have managed just one victory in as many games on Dominica’s soil.

Over the weekend, Saint Lucia Veterans defeated Dominica Veterans by nine wickets at the Londonderry Playing Field in Wesley. Dominica Vets made 175-5 in 20 overs. Evie Chama made 58 and  Fabien Etienne 40. Philip Ratty Ismael took two wickets for Saint Lucia. 

With the second innings reduced to 15 overs due to rain, Saint Lucia Vets were set a target of 133 to win. Powered by youth player Orey Changoo’s 103 in 34 balls, Saint Lucia reached 136-1 in eight overs, winning by nine wickets. 

Dominica’s youth team avenged their seniors, beating Saint Lucia by nine wickets. Batting first in a 15-over match, Saint Lucia posted a formidable 207-4. Jason Simon lashed 68, and Alvin Lafieulle added 38. Jason Paris took two wickets for the Dominicans.

The lads from the Nature Isle needed just 10.4 overs to overhaul the target, reaching 208-1, as Benjamin Casimer hit 103 and Chestan Gangleben 81.

On the second game day, Saint Lucia Vets made it two from two, as they defeated Dominica Vets by 24 runs. The visitors scored 146-6, as Jason Simon shone again, top-scoring with 43. Marcus Nelson contributed 22, and  Alvin Lafieulle 13. Nick Bruno took three wickets.

In their reply, Dominica Vets folded for 120. Erie Chama led with 49, Brian Sully added 21, and Clem Telemaque 15. David Joseph took three wickets and Philip Ishmael two for Saint Lucia.

It was a solid day for Saint Lucia as the youth team won a nailbiter over Tafia Boys of the Kalinago Territory, the Dominican tapeball champions. The tourists won by five wickets with an over to spare. 

Tafia Boys scored 146-9, Keenan Paris 34, Davin Toussaint 27. Shon Francois bagged five wickets and Mercille Samuel two.

In their reply Saint Lucia reached 147-5 in 19 overs, thanks to a balanced batting attack.  Garette Alphonse made 23, Kesron Browne 22,  Imbert Lorde 21, and Jewelle Simon 20. Abby Etienne grabbed three wickets.

Dominica Vets earned their first win at home on Monday, emerging victorious by eight wickets in a high-scoring fixture. Saint Lucia posted 220-3 in just 16 overs, as Orey Changoo blasted another masterful 103, and Alvin Lafeuille chipped in with 44.

In their reply, Dominica raced to 222-2 in only 12 overs. Haynes Vivulie smashed a quickfire 100, Jerry Auguste got to 37, and Fabien Etienne 27.

Saint Lucia’s juniors also went down to Dominica Youth, falling by three wickets. Saint Lucia scored 177-9 in 16 overs, Garette Alphonse 57 and Changoo 25. Ewin Burton and Edward Worinton had three scalps each.

Dominica won with three wickets remaining and an over to spare, getting to 178-7 in 15 overs. Mica Joseph tallied 79 and Malinga Burnie 28. Shon Francois took three wickets and Merville Samuel two.
