Saint Lucia finished sixth in Americas Group III of the Billie Jean King Cup, after a week of play in Santa Tecla, El Salvador. The four-member team played four ties, won one and lost three, and will return for Group III for the third time next year. Team captain Stacey Roheman was proud of her team’s effort, and she is already preparing for 2026.
“It was a great experience overall,” she told St Lucia Times. “It was my first time participating in the event. The competition and level of play was tough, but we hung in there and battled every match out till the end. I can’t wait for next year.”
Saint Lucia qualified for the 4-6th place playoffs after beating Panama and losing to Uruguay in pool play. Uruguay went on to place second overall behind The Bahamas, with both winning promotion to Group II next season.
Saint Lucia lost 2-1 to Cuba in the playoffs. Isid Hernandez beat Julia D’Auvergne 6-3, 6-0, but Jessica Eudovic battled back to even the tie by overcoming Roxanda Valdez 7-5, 2-6, 6-1. Eudovic and Roheman were unable to handle Valdez and Hernandez in doubles, however, as they were beaten 7-5, 6-2.
Against Jamaica, Saint Lucia again found themselves in a 0-1 hole early. Adeola Greatorex wasted little time defeating Jaelyn Henry 6-0, 6-2. Eudovic spent little more time upending Katherine Dibbs 6-3, 6-2. In the doubles, D’Auvergne and Eudovic were taken down 7-5, 6-3 by Dibbs and Holly Reid.
