Saint Lucia to experience showers, possible thunderstorms as strong tropical wave passes

Saint Lucians can expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies, scattered showers, and a chance of isolated thunderstorms today, as a strong tropical wave moves across the island chain.

According to the 6:00 a.m. update from the Saint Lucia Meteorological Services, this tropical disturbance will continue to affect the island’s weather over the next 24 hours. Winds are expected from the east to east-southeast at around 16 mph (26 km/h), with sea conditions remaining moderate.

Development possible in coming days

The system currently affecting the island is part of a broader uptick in tropical activity in the Atlantic. Meteorologists say the strong wave could gradually develop as it travels westward at 21 mph (33 km/h).

Meanwhile, two additional tropical waves are being tracked:

  • One is located about 1000 miles (1609 km) east of Saint Lucia, and could develop into a tropical depression by Thursday (September 25) or Friday (September 26).

  • The third is situated in the far eastern Tropical Atlantic and is moving more slowly at 9 mph (15 km/h).

With multiple systems under watch, the public is advised to remain vigilant and follow official weather updates — particularly as the region enters the most active phase of the Atlantic hurricane season.
