Saint Lucia Cruise Port recently convened its annual stakeholder forum to chart a strategic path for maximising the economic impact of the cruise industry across the island. With operational oversight for the Castries and Soufrière ports, the Saint Lucia Cruise Port’s leadership is signalling a new era of destination development and community benefit.
Lancelot Arnold, director of GPH Eastern Caribbean and general manager of Saint Lucia Cruise Port, underscored the need to align Saint Lucia’s offerings with evolving passenger expectations.
“Cruise lines are not just coming to Saint Lucia because it’s there. What experience are we providing to our passengers when they come? How are we ensuring that we attract them enough to come off the cruise vessel?”
Arnold emphasised the importance of aligning local offerings with passenger expectations, leveraging pre-arrival data and marketing insights in partnership with the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority to ensure that local businesses reap the rewards of cruise traffic.
Gaspard George, director of operations, highlighted the industry’s resilience and rapid rebound following the COVID-19 pandemic.
“By 2027, nearly 40 million persons globally will be cruising,” he said, urging stakeholders to develop targeted strategies that position Saint Lucia to capture a greater share of this expanding market.
The forum brought together tourism officials, vendors, business leaders, taxi drivers, tour operators and other community representatives to explore collaborative approaches to enhancing shore-side experiences, increasing passenger engagement and driving inclusive economic development.
The forum reinforced the importance of cross-sector collaboration to deliver authentic, high-quality visitor experiences. By encouraging passengers to disembark and explore, Saint Lucia can unlock new opportunities for economic growth, cultural exchange, and sustainable development.
Saint Lucia Cruise Port reaffirmed its commitment to working hand-in-hand with local partners in the development and advancement of Saint Lucia’s cruise tourism product.
