La Clery’s journey in the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Club Shield ended on Saturday night after a 2-0 loss to former champions SV Robinhood at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago. The two-time Saint Lucia Semi-Professional League winners were eliminated in the Round of 16.
Just one day after the 50th anniversary of Crawford’s Olympic win in the men’s 100m, the first gold medal at that level for Trinidad & Tobago, the stadium named in his honour welcomed some of the region’s top club football teams.
Le Clery, who advanced by beating Roaring Lions of Anguilla, became the second Saint Lucian team to lose to Robinhood. The Surinamese champions beat B1 FC 5-0 in 2023 en route to that year’s title, and victory in the inaugural Concacaf Caribbean Cup.
Against La Clery, Robinhood went ahead from the penalty spot in the 11th minute. The champions doubled their lead in the 18th minute through Gilberto Cronie.
Guyanese champions Slingerz FC and Barbados champions Weymouth Wales also won their Round of 16 matches to book places in the CFU Club Shield Quarterfinals.
