Saint Lucian bodybuilding contingent shines at CAC Championship

The Saint Lucian bodybuilding contingent that participated in the recently concluded IFBB Central American and Caribbean Championship and the IFBB Semi-Pro CAC 2025 gave a remarkable account of itself. This well-attended gathering, held on September 26 and 27 at the Pavilion on the Ramp in Gros Islet, featured strong teams from across the region.

In previous years, the championship was held over a single day. However, officials opted to extend the event to two days to provide respite for organisers and athletes, whose bodies often become taxed by the long hours required for participation and officiating.

When the points were tallied, Team Saint Lucia finished second in the overall standings, falling just behind Barbados. It’s important to note that the number of athletes fielded plays a significant role in the overall points, as teams earn points for both participation and medal wins. Saint Lucia fielded 17 athletes, a total matched by Barbados.

Team Saint Lucia also earned a pro card through the exploits of double gold medallist Shani Victorin. In bodybuilding, a pro card is a certification that officially recognises an athlete as a professional bodybuilder. It’s a major milestone in the sport and carries significant weight in terms of career advancement, competition eligibility and prestige. Victorin is just the second Saint Lucian woman with a pro card, following Marina Pierre in 2016.

Jacqueline Trim leads the national federation responsible for organising bodybuilding events, athlete development, and international representation. The president of the Saint Lucia Bodybuilding and Body Fitness Association (SLBBFF) told St Lucia Times in an interview that while hosting such a large-scale event was indeed a challenge, it was ultimately a successful undertaking.

“We got 13 countries to participate. We have 95 athletes and 34 officials on the island and it was a success,” she said. “People have said that this is the best CAC that they have attended… look at the support that we got and I’m happy with the support that we got for such a magnitude of a championship.”

Local organisers hope that the event will reignite support and interest in the sport.
