Schools’ table tennis gets underway

Nearly 100 athletes are competing for 11 total titles in the 2025 Inter Secondary Schools Table Tennis Championships, which got underway this week at the National Table Tennis Centre in Vide Bouteille. Paddles have been swinging, and the competition has been fierce among schools across the island.

Participating schools registered 99 players, and they were divided into four groups each for boys and girls. Among the boys, Castries Comprehensive Secondary School and Sir Ira Simmons Secondary have qualified from Group 1. St Mary’s College and Ciceron Secondary have moved on from Group 2.

Among the girls, Group 2 has qualified St Joseph’s Convent and Leon Hess Comprehensive Secondary School. The top two teams from the groups yet to be decided will move on to the quarterfinals for team and doubles events, while four players per group advance to the Round of 16 in singles.

The flagship youth tournament will produce boys’ and girls’ team champion, boys’, girls’, and mixed doubles victors, Under-13, Under-15, and Under-19 boys’ and girls’ singles.

Among the other participating institutions are Saint Lucia Sports Academy, Ciceron Secondary, and Entrepot Secondary. The tournament features exciting young talents such as Manie Eleuthere, Khamari Harris, Leshon Francis, Vernon Salvator, Sanjay Lake, Deandre James, Ronald Corsinie, Immanuel Charles, along with Shatal Charles, Germina Isidore, Nefatari Goddard, Lyzan Seraphin, and Daniella Symphorien.

The energy at the Table Tennis Centre is electric as students, coaches, and supporters rally behind their schools in pursuit of national glory.
