SMC, SALCC on collision course in schools’ basketball

Only two teams remain unbeaten in schools’ basketball, after three weeks of competition, with just seven games remaining in the preliminary group phase. St Mary’s College (SMC) and defending champions Sir Arthur Lewis Community College (SALCC) are yet to drop a game, and are locked in for berths in the quarterfinals at month-end.

Earlier this week, on October 14, SMC crushed Beanefield Comprehensive Secondary School 73-29. Requelmi Pierre continued his fine form, scoring 18 points, adding three rebounds and six steals. Jabari Archibald contributed 16 points and seven rebounds, while Rollins Estwick tallied 15 points, five rebounds, and five steals.

SALCC, meanwhile, brushed Soufriere Comprehensive Secondary School aside on Thursday at the Beausejour Gymnasium, winning the 2024 title rematch 54-18. Soufrière have played in the last three finals, but their first loss this year was a brutal one.

Joel Desrivieres had 12 points, five boards, and four steals for SALCC. Malik Denise got 11 points, five rebounds, and four steals. Nyel Joseph added ten points and six rebounds, Ethan Desrivieres eight points and five rebounds.

For SCSS, Curdin Jones scored nine points, adding eight rebounds and five steals.

Castries Comprehensive Secondary School kept their quarterfinal charge going, beating Entrepot Secondary School 51-20. Meshach DuBoulay led with 28 points, eight rebounds, and four steals. David Chandler impressed with 12 points and 14 rebounds.

Vieux Fort Comprehensive Secondary School consigned their noisy neighbours, Beanefield, to a fourth straight loss, 34-12. Cyrilon Cyris netted 11 points. Josan Henry racked up ten points, 12 rebounds, and eight steals.
