National Basketball executive meets affiliates

With 11 clubs and organisations in attendance, the Saint Lucia Basketball Federation (SLBF) convened its inaugural affiliates meeting on February 7, during which discussions covered finances, reaffiliation and the 2026 National Basketball League.

The Association of Referees and Officials, Basketball for the Future, Bonne Terre Blazers, Courts Jets, East Coast Academy, Fired Up Fitness, Mr. Magic Basketball, Morne Gladiators, Netblazers, Soufriere Kings, and Vieux Fort Basketball were present in person and online, along with representatives of Dennery Dolphins and Babonneau Dynasty, both of which are exploring reaffiliation with the SLBF.

Three new executive members were brought to the affiliates for ratification to fill vacancies that emerged over the past year. Former assistant secretary Shenaz Narcisse is the new general secretary, replacing Julie Bonnett. Johnson Mondesir is the new assistant secretary. Laura John was also elected second vice president, replacing Benise Joseph.

Also on the agenda were the President’s Address, the Year in Review, the 2026 Calendar of Activities, the Introduction of New Executive Members, the National Basketball League 2026 and the Financial Report of 2025.

Among the events announced for 2026 were the Preseason Invitational, tipping off February 27, and the National Basketball League, starting March 7. The preseason invitational will see the returning champions from Dominica 767 Sports Club, NBL 2025 champions and runners-up Soufriere Kings and Bonne Terre Blazers and, for the first time, Waks Basketball Club from Martinique.

Also discussed was the SLBF’s intention this year to provide more avenues and opportunities for female basketball.

The meeting took place at the Saint Lucia Olympic Committee’s Jonathan Everett Conference Room in La Clery.
