Tems declares Saint Lucia as ‘most beautiful place’ at Jazz Festival

Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Tems left a lasting impression on fans at World Beats, not just with her performance but with her heartfelt praise for Saint Lucia.

Taking to the main stage on Saturday night at the Jazz & Arts Festival, she told the crowd it was her first time on the island and declared she was “loving it,” adding that “this might be the most beautiful place I have ever been”. As this statement drew loud cheers, she said, “Can you adopt me? Can I be one of you? … you feel like my people.”

Her set was a highlight of the night, as she performed a string of fan favourites, including ‘Me & U’ and ‘Big Daddy’.

World Beats, held at Pigeon Island, brought together an exciting mix of international and regional talent. The audience was treated to performances from LuCity, Les Aiglons De Guadeloupe, Princess’ Lover, X-Man, British R&B star Ella Mai, and Tems herself.

Ella Mai, who is also a Grammy winner, drew a large crowd as well, with fans singing along to hits like ‘Boo’d Up’, ‘Trip’, and ‘Naked’.

The previous night, Caribbean Fusion featured high-energy sets from Skip Marley, Kes the Band, Dexta Daps, and Saint Lucian Melange, all of whom drew massive crowds with their electrifying performances.

The festival continues Sunday night with The Ultimate Celebration, another highly anticipated lineup that includes Brandy, Monica, Billy Ocean, Beverley Knight, Mervin Wilkinson & Friends, and Kyle Ernest.
