Louisy re-elected SLHTA president, pledges stronger focus on tourism growth

Erwin Louisy has been re-elected unopposed as President of the Saint Lucia Hospitality and Tourism Association (SLHTA), with a commitment to building a stronger and more responsive organisation as the sector prepares for continued growth.

Louisy, the Managing Director of Barefoot Holidays DMC, secured another term running until 2028 during the association’s 62nd Annual General Meeting (AGM), held on Wednesday at Harbor Club.

Reflecting on her return to the leadership position, Louisy expressed gratitude to SLHTA members, the Board of Directors and industry partners for their continued confidence.

“At the start of my career, I had three options: the arts, fashion or tourism. I chose tourism, and I have never looked back. It is with gratitude that I thank our members, Board of Directors, TEF Trustees, the Secretariat, Ministry of Tourism, SLTA, and everyone here today. I just want to say thank you,” she said.

Louisy said her new mandate will focus on strengthening the association’s operations, improving member services and ensuring its long-term sustainability.

She said priorities will include exploring new revenue opportunities, reviewing the membership structure and enhancing the value provided to members.

“Beyond our operations, the SLHTA will continue to be a strong voice for the private sector. We will advocate for greater private sector collaboration, stronger economic linkages, higher industry standards, and policies that support competitiveness, including airlift, renewable energy, marketing, ease of doing business, and security,” Louisy said.

She added that the association will also pursue institutional reforms aimed at strengthening key tourism-related entities, including the Saint Lucia Hyperbaric Chamber and the Tourism Enhancement Fund.

“The year ahead will require focus, collaboration, and decisive action. The SLHTA must remain a platform for progress and a catalyst for growth, helping ensure that tourism continues to benefit our members, communities, and the wider economy,” she said.

Karolin Troubetzkoy of Anse Chastanet and Jade Mountain resorts was also re-elected unopposed as Vice President.

The AGM, held under the theme “Powering the Growth of Tourism – Utilities: Essential for Saint Lucia’s Future”, was presented by Liberty Business, with support from gold sponsor Saint Lucia Electricity Services Limited (LUCELEC) and bronze sponsor the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority (SLTA).

The event brought together tourism stakeholders, government representatives and industry partners to discuss issues affecting the sector’s growth and competitiveness.

Discussions focused on key areas including water security, energy resilience, telecommunications, industry advocacy and infrastructure needs, with stakeholders highlighting the importance of ensuring Saint Lucia has the systems required to support anticipated tourism developments and expansion projects.
