Saint Lucian consumers will soon receive faster, easier support thanks to a new agreement that establishes the Consumer Connect Platform. This is the first time the country’s main consumer protection and regulatory agencies are working together under one system.
A press release says the partnership includes the Department of Consumer Affairs, the National Consumers Association, the National Utilities Regulatory Commission (NURC), the Saint Lucia Bureau of Standards (SLBS) and the National Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (NTRC). These groups will work together to make it easier for people to get help and make sure concerns go to the right place quickly.
Minister for Labour and Consumer Affairs Emma Hippolyte called this a major milestone. She said the new platform shows a shared promise to put consumers first.
“Consumer protection cannot be achieved by any single institution acting alone,” Hippolyte said. “Government has a responsibility not only to establish the legislative and regulatory framework that protects consumers, but also to ensure that consumers can easily access the support and services available to them.”
The National Consumers Association created the Consumer Connect Platform to make it easier for people to get information, make complaints and get help. Now, instead of dealing with many agencies, consumers will have a smoother and faster experience.
Hippolyte said this new platform is important now because technology is changing quickly, online shopping is growing, and digital services are becoming more common.
She explained that each group brings its own skills, from regulating utilities and telecommunications to setting standards and educating the public. Working together makes the whole consumer protection system stronger and better able to handle today’s challenges.
The Minister also said the platform is more than just a way to share information. She sees it as a sign of trust in public institutions and a new promise to give consumers better results.
