The Saint Lucia National Cricket Association (SLNCA) wrapped up its Women’s T20 Tournament on Sunday at the La Fargue Playing Field, where home team Choiseul beat their neighbours Laborie. Alyiah Alfred led the way with strong performances in both batting and bowling.
Laborie captain Skyy Smith won the toss and chose to bat first. However, tight bowling from Alfred, captain Roylin Cooper and Swayline Williams limited Laborie to 99 all out in 19.1 overs.
Alfred took four wickets, conceding just 18 runs from her 24 legal deliveries, 17 of which were dot balls. Cooper’s spell of four overs yielded 19 runs and two wickets, whilst fellow veteran Williams took 2 for 8 from two overs.
Manissa Paul fell for just five, with the Laborie score on 16. Chewed Verneuil joined opener Makeva Anthony to put on 35 runs for the second wicket, but a run-out followed by two wickets for Alfred stemmed the flow.
Anthony and Alisha Emmanuel added 26 runs, bringing Laborie to 91 for 6. Cooper and Williams then finished off the innings, taking the last four wickets for just eight runs.
Alfred led Choiseul’s chase, guiding them to 103 for 3 in just 10.4 overs to win by seven wickets. She finished unbeaten on 56 from 33 balls, hitting four sixes and two fours. Alicia Herman scored 12 from 12 balls, and Britnee Norbal added 11 from 14.
This short four-team tournament, which began in early July, marked the return of domestic women’s cricket after five years. South Castries and the SLNCA Development Team also took part in the competition.
