The local cricket fraternity is mourning the loss of Sharm Pierre, former captain of the Saint Lucia and Windward Islands Under-15 teams, who has died after a short illness. He was 45.
Pierre, from Piaye, was the first Saint Lucian to captain both squads. He was a student at the Soufriere Comprehensive Secondary School and was employed at Jalousie.
Pierre, a top-order batsman, captained the likes of former West Indies players Daren Sammy and Garey Mathurin of Saint Lucia and Devon Smith of Grenada at the Under-15 level.
In a statement released on its social media platforms, the Saint Lucia National Cricket Association (SLNCA) expressed “gratitude and respect for his service, leadership and contribution to the game”.
The SLNCA called him an example for future generations of players.
