The Department of Tourism has handed over the Ramp Comfort Station to the National Conservation Authority after several months of construction.
Last week’s handover marked the end of the project, which features nine vending stalls named after different communities in Gros Islet.
The ramp on Reduit Beach now features murals that highlight the island’s natural beauty and cultural heritage.
According to Tourism Minister Dr Ernest Hilaire, “This project represents part of our mandate to ensure that every popular public beach has washroom access for Saint Lucians and visitors alike.
“The Ramp at Reduit is no different, where, on a regular day, hundreds of beach users show up, including the hard-working vendors.
“This is yet another symbolic handover that represents a drive to ensure that beaches around the island are equipped with recreational facilities for public use.”
When St. Lucia Times visited the site this week, only three out of nine booths were in use. One vendor said business was “a bit slow” these days.
She was hopeful that things would pick up by the start of the cruise season in October and that all the stalls would be filled.
