An altercation during a community J’ouvert in Babonneau on Sunday has led to one individual being hospitalised.
Video footage obtained by St. Lucia Times shows a brawl involving four men along the main Babonneau thoroughfare, not far from the Babonneau Police Station.
An eyewitness said the incident occurred as the J’ouvert was winding down.
The men in the video could be seen hurling missiles at each other in plain view of several onlookers. One of them eventually fell to the ground and was then struck on the head with what appears to be a rock. At that point, the assailant and others involved fled the scene.
Onlookers could be heard speculating about the condition of the motionless individual. Police arrived on the scene shortly after.
St. Lucia Times has learnt that the victim, Jude Thomas, is in stable condition at OKEU, having suffered a concussion.
According to an eyewitness, the brawl started over a petty argument, which led to a bottle fight that culminated in Thomas being struck on the head.
Babonneau Carnival, one of many community carnivals in Saint Lucia, was expected to follow the Sunday Morning J’ouvert.
