Before Saint Lucia’s first underwater sculpture park opens, everyone is invited to come and see the sculptures that will be part of this new attraction.
To help grow dive tourism, three new parks are being created: Dive Park, Snorkel Park and Conservation Park.
The Department of Tourism says the parks will celebrate Saint Lucia’s history, culture and heritage.
On Saturday, August 29 and Sunday, August 30, people in Saint Lucia can come see the sculptures that will soon be part of the island’s underwater attractions.
The Dive Park exhibition will be open to the public, showing the collection of sculptures before they are installed in Anse La Verdue, Canaries.
Minister of Tourism Dr Ernest Hilaire said the parks will add something new to the island’s tourism.
“We asked Saint Lucians to help tell the story of Saint Lucia and our artists and community creatives contributed the ideas from which these sculptures were developed. We are therefore not simply presenting Saint Lucia to the world; we are allowing Saint Lucians to define how our history and heritage are presented to the world,” Hilaire said.
“My hope is that when people dive into this park, they will not only discover our history, but leave with a deeper appreciation for the resilience of our people, the richness of our culture and the responsibility we all share to protect our heritage for generations to come.”
You can see the sculptures at the Odsan Warehouse, which is across from the Odsan Playing Field.
In 2024, the Ministry of Tourism held a National Storyboard Competition to help design Saint Lucia’s first underwater Sculpture Park. Ted Sandiford won the Culture and History category, Jalim Eudovic won the Heritage category and Sheree Emmanuel was the overall winner.
