The Carnival Planning and Management Committee (CPMC) and, by extension, the Saint Lucia Carnival Queen Pageant community are mourning the loss of one of their own following the death of Patrika Evence, Saint Lucia’s National Carnival Queen of 1999.
Evence passed away on Friday, prompting an outpouring of tributes across social media from people whose memories of her extended well beyond the crown she wore more than two decades ago.
Those closest to her have remembered her as a “trusted confidant” and a “guiding mentor”, offering glimpses of the relationships she built and the impact she continued to have on others long after her reign.
The CPMC reflected on what her 1999 title represented and the place she held in Saint Lucia’s Carnival history.
“Her crown was more than a title; it reflected her grace, beauty, confidence and the unforgettable mark she left on Saint Lucia’s Carnival history. She carried it with pride, elegance and a spirit that touched the hearts of many,” the statement read.
The committee’s tribute also spoke to the woman beyond the pageant stage, extending condolences to those who knew and loved her personally.
“Though she may no longer be with us, the light she shared, the memories she created and the legacy she leaves behind will never fade. May her memory continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all.”
