Team Saint Lucia returned home from the Aurora International Golf Club in Anguilla this week with strong results at the 2026 Eastern Caribbean Golf Association (ECGA) Amateur Golf Championship. Despite fielding a very different team from last year, the overall defending champions still came away with three first-place finishes and three more top-five placements.
Golf Saint Lucia Inc did not field a women’s team this year, and therefore did not have an official overall placement. But the men took the Seniors Gross division and the Super Seniors Net division, placed third in Super Seniors Gross, and finished fifth in both Men’s Gross and Men’s Net. Dharmendra Shah took top prize in Super Seniors Net, and Terry Verdant was second in Seniors Net. The Seniors Net team also placed fourth.
The Seniors captured the Gross team title with a combined 321 strokes, anchored by Terry Verdant (161), Eugene Edwin (164), and Timothy Mangal (168). The Super Seniors matched that return, claiming the Net team crown with 157 strokes, while taking third in Gross with 178.
Individual honours included Shah, confirmed as the Super Seniors Net winner with a 162 total, and Verdant’s runner-up finish in the Seniors Net prize standings on 151.
Without the services of golf pro Yadhu Urs, the Men’s open division was a struggle for Saint Lucia. Finishing fifth in both Gross (528) and Net (487), the quartet of Corey Devaux, Keymanie Thomas, Samuel Richelieu, and Jermille Daniel never threatened the podium. Devaux was 10th in Gross (170), but the collective scoring showed that there is significant room for growth.
GSLI recognised as much in its post-tournament review. Among the areas for development, the organisation cited a desire to have the Men’s team challenge for the top four, as well as examining player development, availability and preparation to better build a consistent Women’s team.
